13-01 Bsktbll – WCS Crusaders vs SPM Guardians – 171
Whitinsville Christian 64, St. Peter-Marian 49..Monday, January 14, 2013, at Whitinsville..Although the fans at Whitinsville Christian School saw Tim Dufficy on the basketball court Monday night, for a five-minute span the Crusaders’ senior went to another place. Dufficy was in what basketball players frequently refer to as “the zone” in the third quarter and fueled a 20-2 run that helped lift No. 10 WCS to a 64-49 victory over visiting St. Peter-Marian High. Dufficy finished with 30 points on the night, with 12 coming in the third quarter during which the Crusaders outscored the No. 5 Guardians, 20-4. “We knew coming in (St. Peter-Marian) had a good team, but we also wanted to be the aggressor, and not shy away from them,” said Dufficy, who snapped a 28-28 tie with a three-point play early in the third. “For me, I’ve been kind of struggling all season, but my teammates got me some great open looks, and I was just able to hit my shots.” St. Peter-Marian (9-2) was flying high coming into the game, having posted wins over Catholic Memorial, St. John’s and Charlestown last week, so it didn’t come as a surprise to Crusaders’ coach Jeff Bajema that the Guardians made one last surge in the fourth quarter. “In fairness to (St. Peter-Marian), we caught them after a huge week,” said Bajema, whose team is 7-1 and has a huge test against No. 7 St. Bernard’s Thursday night. “We got the ball moving, and we had to because their defense puts so much pressure on you.”.. .1.2.Final.St. Peter-Marian.26.23.49.Whitinsville Christian.28.36.64. ..ST.
